Reflective Tape and High Visibility Garments: Safety Info You Must Know

Reflective Tape

Recently an engineer suffered first-degree burns which were caused by the reflective tape on the man’s high visibility shirt, calling for important safety precautions to be taken when selecting the right high visibility garment for you.

Although the burn wasn’t serious, it did cause some discomfort. You can read the full article here.

Buyers should be aware that reflective tape uses millions of small glass spheres which reflect light. This means that the tape will retain more heat than the fabrication of a shirt, and especially if the garment is exposed to direct sunlight for long periods of time. If the fabric between the skin and tape is either damaged or wet, this can also result in the heat transferring to the skin.

Our supplier Bisley Workwear recommends, Class D garments to be worn for extended usage in direct sunlight. Please see the attached information or ask one of our friendly staff for more information on which high visibility garment suits you best.
